Ballet

Grades K-2 | Wednesdays, 11:00-11:45 am

Classes will include basic fitness, developmental and imagination exercises combined with ballet and creative movement.  Basic ballet foundations will be covered in terminology, technique, and positions.  Ballet class etiquette will be practiced.

Dress code  (as comfort and budget allow):

For boys:  black shorts or comfortable pants, white t-shirt, and black ballet technique slippers or socks.
For girls:  black leotard with dance skirt, pink ballet tights, and ballet technique slippers.  Hair neatly off the face and no jewelry.

Grades 3-5 | Wednesdays, 4:00-4:45 pm

Classes will include basic strengthening and ballet technique, with foundations in terminology, ballet positions and history.  Students will learn basic ballet positions of arms and feet, beginner exercises at the barre and simple phrasing of two to three movements in center combinations.  Ballet class etiquette will be followed.

Laura Segre-Lewis | Ballet Instructor (Gr. K-2)

Laura is a trained dancer/performer and the co-director of a Lexington based Christian ballet school, Kentucky Repertory Dance Theatre, and performing troupe, Laos Deo.  She has seventeen years of experience with dance for worship and has performed original works both regionally, nationally and internationally in Perth, Australia, Moscow, Russia and Cancun, Mexico on ministry related trips. Laura has also helped lead and teach numerous workshops and dance intensives.  Yearly, she helps produce two dance productions with her students at Kentucky Repertory Dance Theatre showcasing original works.  Their performing troupe, Laos Deo, has taken these works on the road and used them to minister regionally in venues such as nursing homes, children’s homes, schools and churches.

Nancy Durall | Ballet Instructor (Gr. 3-5)

Nancy Durall | Ballet Level 2Nancy Durall, Artistic Director of Kentucky Repertory Dance Theatre in Lexington, since 2005, began her ballet/modern training after 9 years in the fitness industry and medical nutritional therapy.  She began formal dance training with KRDT in 1996.  She has also trained with Dancers’ Studio, Winchester Christian Ballet, Bluegrass Youth Ballet, and Lexington Ballet.

In addition to dancing with local studios, Nancy has attended intensive workshops including Hosanna Sacred Arts, Ballet Magnificat! Ad Deum Dance, and Briarwood Presbyterian Ballet School. Nancy directed a dance ministry team at her local church as part of the worship team and regional outreach.   With KRDT and its dance troupe, Laus Deo, Nancy has shared the Gospel through dance in Kentucky, Alabama, Texas, Ohio, Indiana, and Russian.  KRDT has performed locally in schools, churches, children’s homes, and health care facilities.  Each year Nancy directs 2 original ballets and helps host national dance groups into the area.

Nancy teaches all levels of ballet and fitness classes for ages 2-100 years at KRDT and is a substitute instructor at Dancers’ Studio. With her various exercise certifications throughout the last 40 years, she has an excellent working knowledge of physiology and body mechanics and stays up to date for teaching and training others to accomplish living and dancing aspirations with grace and purpose.
